Dutch Fork: Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes, introduced to the Southland from Africa, came to be a great favorite of the Deutsch settler, either baked in its skin or sliced and baked around roast beef, or made into sweet potato mixed bread, pies, custards, or puddings. It went particularly well with sauerkraut. The Irish potato was never quite as popular, it seems, in the Fork, although it was raised and used widely enough.(Kibler, 1988)
