What is History?: The importance of Oral History in Understanding the Impact of National and International Events on Everyday Life.

This lesson can be used with any grade for any topic to help students understand what we can learn from those around us about history.  The class will brainstorm to come up with a list of events that they would like to know more about from the last thirty-five to sixty-five years.  They will then locate an older family member, neighbor, or church member and conduct and oral history following guideline set by the teacher.  Students will get first hand accounts of history and make connections to people in the community.
