View of Early Columbia

This lesson employs historic maps of Columbia from the collections of the State Museum, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, and the National Archives (online collections) in combination with modern street and regional maps to demonstrate the growth of Columbia over time. Students are asked to locate past features on modern maps and vice versa, establishing a sense of place and time. The development of Columbia is placed in the context of national growth and development.
