Upcountry Settlement
This lesson combined a lecture presentation by Ashley Adkins of the Center for the Study of Piedmont History (CSPH) with maps from the CSPH collections to illustrate patterns of settlement in upcountry South Carolina from the colonial period through antebellum times. Students were then asked to construct PowerPoint presentations on the development of upcountry counties from 1750-1850 using sources found from Internet searches.
