The Spanish-American War and the Impacts of Journalism on History

Tenth grade students will take notes on a lecture about the Spanish American War, with emphasis on the events in Cuba.  After reading newspaper articles from the Greenville Mountaineer, in the collection of the Greenville County Library, students will discuss the role of journalists in influencing public opinion about the war.  Students then use this knowledge to analyze current articles from the Greenville News.  Finally, the teacher will have students write about his/her actions in a paragraph to illustrate varying opinions and perspectives in journalism.
