Slave Revolts Throughout the Ages

This lesson offers a chance to study American history and that of ancient Rome. Looking specifically at the actions of Demark Vesey and Spartacus, the lesson will allow students to see continuity in the past. Using American slave accounts from the Library of Congress, slave related artifacts from the Confederate Relic Room, images of slave quarters from Historic Brattonsville, and an account of Vesey's trial with similar resources relating to ancient Rome students will compare and contrast the two experiences.
