Settlement and Development

Utilize local resources available in South Carolina to teach about larger settlement patterns in the American colonies. For instance, teach about plantation life from a South Carolina perspective. If possible visit sites like Drayton Hall, Walnut Grove, and Historic Brattonsville. Primary source documents like South Carolina's Slave Code of 1740 and slave bills of sale help students understand the establishment and expansion of slavery in the Carolinas.
