The Nineteenth Amendment Comes to South Carolina

The teacher will lead a discussion about the events of the women’s suffrage movement, passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, and changes in women’s societal roles in the first three decades of the twentieth century.  High school students then will use letters from Anita Pollitzer, a suffragette from Charleston, and South Carolina Governor Benjamin Tillman to inform their own early-twentieth century letters to the editor, either for or against the Nineteenth Amendment.
