Greenville, South Carolina: Evolution of a Textile Mill and Industrial Center

This lesson, designed for a small independent school, targets students from seventh to twelfth grade, and asks them to analyze the seven factors for industrial development: raw products and materials, land, labor, power, transportation, capital, and management.  After viewing and taking notes on a PowerPoint presentation on the history of Greenville’s industries, which incorporates both primary and secondary sources, students will use maps of the area to discuss the community’s economy and to predict future economic and political changes to the region.
