Students use local primary sources to learn about history in their own town in this high school lesson.  By studying the Rock Hill bus boycott of 1957 and the lunch counter protests of 1960-1, students see that the Civil Rights Movement had local connections.  Through newspaper articles and photographs from the Winthrop University Archives and Clemson University Library's Special Collections, student will see local history reflections national trends and learn to appreciate the figures that brought about change in their community.
