Charter of Carolina

In this role-play activity, the class uses the Charter of 1663 to see how a colony began. Through a close reading and analysis of the document students see what provisions had to be made for the new colony and who was involved in its creation. The students then work in groups to create a charter for their own fictional colony. Through this process the students learn that the establishment of a colony takes cooperation and compromise.
