The Briggs Petition (Interview Project)

The lesson gives a brief description of the history behind the Briggs Petition. For the teacher it is a lesson requiring very few resources, as only one copy of the Briggs petition is necessary. The purpose of the lesson is to teach students how to use primary sources how to look at and interpret the importance of primary source documents, and how to relate primary source documents to the student's life. The lesson is meant to help foster a desire in the student(s) to become an active participant in the learning experience by acting as an interviewer. Minimum time for the lesson is one day of in class discussion of what is expected of the student concerning the interview process and questions, and one day for student presentations and reflections.
