South Carolina Political Collections (SCPC) is located in the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library, which is accessed through Thomas Cooper Library. Collections document government, politics and South Carolina society, chiefly in the post-World War II era, and include records of South Carolina leaders in Congress and the General Assembly, the state’s political parties, and other individuals and organizations playing substantive roles in politics and government. Among SCPC's collections are the papers of Sol Blatt, Carroll Campbell, Butler Derrick, Byran Dorn, Jim Edwards, Hollings, Olin Johnston, Bob McNair, I. DeQuincey Newman, Floyd Spence, John West and many others.

The SCPC web site includes detailed descriptions of all collections open for study; transcripts of oral history interviews with legislators, staff members and others which add to the collected documentary record; online exhibits; and other resources. SCPC’s blog provides updates on SCPC activities and collections. The online exhibit, “Fritz Hollings: In His Own Words,” features two hundred documents from the Hollings papers, chiefly speeches, press releases, and op-ed pieces. Similar publications are planned for former Governors Bob McNair and John West.
