The 2005 Conference for the South Carolina Council for Social Studies met in Columbia September 29- October 2, 2005.  The meeting gave TAHSC a chance to catch up with past participants and spread the news of the 2006 Institutes!  Click the SCCSS logo to the right for more information about the organization.

2004 and 2005 Summer Institute participant Tonya Janicke presented her TAH lessons, John Gary Anderson and the Anderson Car, at a Saturday morning session.  In the image to the left she is sharing student work that her class created after they learned about this local automobile manufacturer from primary sources.  Tonya’s lesson will be appearing on the TAHSC website’s “Lesson Plans” section later this fall!

Participants from all three regions of the 2005 institutes assisted TAH staff by sharing their experiences from the summer at information sessions for the 2006 course.  Teachers Annegell McCants and Tonya Janicke, from the Lowcountry institute, Jamie Brindle and Allison Epps, from the Midlands institute, and Kim Harrelson and Allyson Goff from the Pee Dee Institute, all cited improvement in content knowledge, familiarity with primary resources, and access to cultural institutes as benefits of taking part in the TAHSC program.  In 2006 TAHSC participants will study the content and resources associated with U.S. history since 1865; to access an electronic copy of the brochure, click the image to the right.
